As we celebrate Pride 🏳️‍🌈 month, we want to explore the ways we not only have pride in ourselves, our communities, and our culture, but also in our planet. 🌎💚

While most of us would probably say that we DO have pride in our planet, there’s a thought that nags in the back of our heads about the destruction and devastation that humanity has been causing the planet for decades. 😭

That brings in another aspect: we also want mother nature to be proud of us. In that department, we have lots of room for improvement. 🙃

So how do we do that? How do we make mother nature proud?

Did you know that the global environmental movement was started by an LGBTQIA+ person—scientist and marine biologist Rachel Carson of the United States? 🌈🌿👩🏻‍🔬

Her ground-breaking book 'Silent Spring' (1962) came from her scientific studies into the effects of the chemical DDT and other pesticides on natural habitats around the world. A year after it was published, she testified before a Senate subcommittee on pesticides, which ignited the public to start a revolution which we know today as the environmental movement.

Climate change policy and LGBTQIA+ rights are very much intertwined. For Queer folks, the climate crisis is something that is currently affecting them in low-income communities. And according to an aritcle by @grist, 55% of LGBTQIA+ adults vs. 33% of straight adults said they care a lot about green issues.

So we want to amplify some of these amazing voices. Here are some amazing Queer activists, advocates, educators, etc. with a love for the environment and sustainability that we love. ❤️
